  1. Students place water, soil, and sand in individual pans and place the pans in the sun. After a given period of time, use a thermometer to measure the temperature in each pan.
  2. Students will examine various earth materials such as sand, silt, clay, pebbles, and gravel and record differences and similarities on a chart.
