How to become a part of this research project.

I am eager to work with GLOBE students to test the model and extend the areas where it can be applied. To do this for your area, please take and report the GLOBE temperature, precipitation, land cover/biology, soil characterization, and soil temperature and moisture measurements faithfully and carefully.

I am especially interested, right now, in receiving data from schools in northern latitudes in both forested and non-forested areas. With data from these locations, the freezing and thawing and ice formation parts of the model can be tested and improved.

I am ALSO interested in receiving data from schools in other locations as well, especially schools in temperate forests and grasslands. With these data, I can test to see whether the FroST model works just as well in warmer climates. Once these are completed, I would like to expand the analysis to tropical, desert, and other climate regions across the Earth. In this way, all GLOBE schools will have a chance to work together in this experiment.

If you are interested in becoming part of my experiment team, please send me an email (at globe@ltpmail.gsfc.nasa.gov) so I can contact your school.  If necessary, I will be prepared to provide you with some help as you collect your data.  Once we receive the data from your students and run the model, we will report the results back to you. I am presently working on data from Kingsburg High School, from Kingsburg, California to run the FroST model. Look for the results to be presented soon!
