Biology site profile

Our last profile was taken in the center of our Biology Study Area, located in the deciduous forest behind our school. As you can see, we found the different layers and colors in our soil. There was a really fine layer of topsoil, and a thick layer of subsoil. We dug down as far as 37 cm when our auger broke. It is now fixed, so we may continue our soil profiles when the weather becomes warmer.

This profile was examined on October 8, 1997.

  • Appears to be two slightly different horizons in one for the top two horizons.
    • The first two horizons are at 0-7 cm and 7 - 11 cm
    • the second two horizons are at 11 - 29 cm and 29 - 37 cm.
