mid valley road cut

This is the first soil profile the freshman Global Science class ever examined. None of us were really prepared for this little adventure, and were surprised when our teacher said we were going outside. This picture was taken by a little tool shed located near our school. All of us were a little confused considering it was our first time on our hands and knees, digging in the dirt. We were all amazed on how we could see the different layers and changes of color in the soil. Hopefully, next time we'll be more prepared for the wether and to dig in the dirt.

This profile was examined on October 6, 1997.

  • first horizon 0-16 cm
  • second horizon 16-46 cm
  • third horizon 46 - cm
